career-ops: the free job search agent that scores jobs before you apply

An open-source Claude Code tool that scores each job against your CV, says skip weak fits, and drafts a tailored CV and answers. You press Submit.

740 jobs checked. Only 68 applied. 1 offer. career-ops is an open-source Claude Code tool that scores each job against your CV, tells you to skip weak fits, and drafts a tailored CV and answers, while you stay the one who presses Submit. This is the full version of the APPLY guide from my Reel.

01What it is

career-ops is an MIT-licensed project (github.com/career-ops-hq/career-ops) created by @santifer. It runs locally inside an AI coding CLI such as Claude Code, Codex or OpenCode. The author used it on his own search: 740 listings evaluated, 68 applications, 12 interviews, 1 offer.

02Why it matters

More applications usually means more silence. career-ops checks whether a posting is still open, scores the role 1-5 against your real CV, and tells you not to apply below 4.0. You spend your time on the few jobs that fit.

03Setup

  1. Install Node.js.
  2. Run npx @santifer/career-ops init (it clones the latest release into ./career-ops and installs dependencies).
  3. cd career-ops, then start Claude Code: claude.
  4. On first launch it asks for your CV, profile and target roles in chat. Nothing to edit by hand.
  5. Paste a job URL or description, or run /career-ops {JD} for the full pipeline (evaluation, report, PDF CV, tracker).
Quick start
npx @santifer/career-ops init
cd career-ops
claude
Manual option
git clone https://github.com/career-ops-hq/career-ops.git
cd career-ops && npm install
npx playwright install chromium # only for PDFs
npm run doctor

04Useful commands

  1. /career-ops scan finds new postings on the portals you set.
  2. /career-ops cover writes a cover letter.
  3. /career-ops apply reads a live application form and drafts the answers.
  4. /career-ops tracker shows every application's status.
  5. /career-ops interview-prep builds company-specific prep.

05Good to know

  1. The first runs are rough; tell it what you want and what you refuse.
  2. It rewrites your CV but must not invent facts. Read every CV before sending.
  3. Your CV goes from your machine to the AI provider you chose, nowhere else.
  4. You can override a "do not apply"; it will say so.
